Seminar Title: Trauma-Informed Approaches to Caring for Students and Ourselves in Times of Crisis

Abstract

To be trauma-informed in the context of higher education means to understand the widespread prevalence and impact of trauma on individuals, families, and communities and to use that understanding to develop educational policies and practices that reduce the risk of retraumatization and promote learning and growth. During this webinar, participants will learn about the impact of trauma in general and during crises such as the recent earthquake in particular on both students and educators. We will also explore strategies to recognize and respond to our own and others' stress to enhance learning and well-being using a trauma-informed framework.
